Back in 2001, we’d had enough of not seeing the pool clock, our stuff at the beach, and in one case even mistaking a stranger for a spouse…
There had to be a solution that didn’t involve wearing our eyeglasses in the water. Someone must offer prescription swim goggles we thought. Even back then, Google helped us find some options from (major brand) to try out. They worked well enough, but the quality back then was quite terrible. We realized that if we wanted a better option, then there must be others that did as well. So we set out to do it ourselves. They would have to work, be durable, comfortable, offer a different option for each eye, all at a reasonable price. Already a pretty big list, and we hadn’t even considered what they would look like. We were (and are) much more concerned with Function over Form. What use are they if you can’t see? We’ve made a few revisions in the past 18 years, and think our V2 swim goggles with prescription lenses are now in a really good place for both function and form.
Our prescription swim goggles come with pre-made lenses that correct for Sphere only, in varying strengths called diopters or step-diopter lenses. Negative, or nearsighted, lenses start at -1.5 and increase in 0.5 increments to -7, and then full diopter strengths to -10. While the negative lenses are far more common as more people are myopic (nearsighted) compared to hyperopic (farsighted), we also carry lenses for farsighted people. The V2+ positive strength swim goggles start at +2 and continue in full strengths to +5.
Why Not Contacts or Traditional Eye Glasses?
Contacts should never be worn under water due to the increased risk of infection caused bacteria that can form on the contacts due to micro-organisms found in the water. Also, contacts and traditional eyeglasses don’t provide REAL protection against chlorine and other irritants.
The best solution is our far & nearsighted swimming goggles. Not only will they help you to see more clearly in and around the water, but they will also protect your eyes from irritants, chlorine and UVA and UVB radiation.
We are always listening to feedback from customers and will continue to improve our optical swim goggles so you can see and enjoy your experiences in the water. Share your stories with us!
